Gaz and Luke: I have a question about the “turn in the groin.” Is this a byproduct of shape and moving down the hand line that occurs because of them or is it a separate move in and of itself entirely? Regards Michael

Right Arm in Front
When Tour Players swings get out they usually have trouble hitting both shapes. In this lesson Gary talks about the importance of being shallow early with the right arm in front of the body and how to Draw and Fade the ball correctly.
Hitting Around Vs Hitting Down
The feeling of hitting down only comes because the ball is at the bottom of the Shape. Most golfers get into trouble because they try to cover the ball by hitting down on it. In this video Gary explains how to compress the ball and cover the ball by hitting around at it.
Transferring and Trapping
If your Top and Bottom are in the right order going back you can Cover and Trap the ball at impact. Players who lose their Shape going back have trouble transferring their Top weight. In this video Gary explains weight transfer and how to finish on the front axis.
Body Speed Vs Shaft Speed
Some players who initially get good results with the irons sometimes have trouble translating them to the Driver. This tends to happen when they try to get more speed the wrong way and get out of Shape.
Arms Lead
Players usually get in trouble in the transition when they shift or clear the body early. Having the Arms Lead is only possible if your backswing is coiled and you have Shape.Tiger had this Drill mastered and many of Gary’s players still do it to check they are in the correct position going back.
Turning Both Sides
If you try to turn both sides of your body going back you will not be able to stay in your original Shape. It is much more difficult to cover the ball coming down if you are too far back. In this lesson Gary explains the importance of turning the Right Side.
Shallow Early
If you have the Shape and the Coil going back you can shallow the shaft early in the downswing. A lot of better players are steep and have to shallow the club later. In this video Gary explains how great ball strikers create store-up without pulling the club down vertically.
Right Arm Issues
Gary, I’ve always struggled with the position of my right arm at set up when trying to get shape and achieve the “Hogan Wrap”: should it be ahead of my chest but on the right side of it, or should it be on my chest, closer to the sternum. Thanks, Ethan
The Arm Action
If you have the Shape right going back then the arm action coming down can be direct and more powerful. In the RSS the right arm stays below the left and the left shoulder stays high coming down. It then slots into position and is ready to get out of the way.
